Our Schlocktoberfest comes to an end this week and we’re going out on one hell of a note. Beating the odds last week by grabbing the buck in our Pass the Buck game, Matt chose William Friedkin’s horror masterpiece The Exorcist (1973). This adult movie for adults is terrifying on multiple levels, and still manages to pack a wallop in the dread and angst departments. Join us for a discussion of its many merits, a prolonged reminiscence of Halloweens past, and a query into the exact nature of nougat this week on Hex Rated BOO!vies!
Taking a cue from the sweeties at the Large Marge Sent Us podcast, this season Matt is cruising down to nostalgia town and examining some movies that shaped his childhood. And since it’s still Schlocktoberfest, he’s keeping it creepy with the Tim Burton classic, Beetlejuice (1988). With top-notch production design, fantastic performances, and a killer score to boot, this movie continues to be a kooky gem that super duper holds up. AFI list comparisons, skeletal carpal tunnel, and the next step in our slow evolution into becoming a game show this week on Hex Rated BOO!vies!
